Obituary

Onesimo (Butch), R. Romero, Jr., beloved uncle, brother and son, went to be with the lord, May 30, 2019. Butch was born to Onesimo and Priscilla Romero on October 7, 1949. He was affectionately referred to as "Oney the Only", as he was the only son and surrounded by nine sisters. Butch was preceded in death by his loving and devoted parents, Onesimo and Priscilla Romero; sisters, Avelina Romero, Martha (Jim) Barela, Delores Romero and Theresa (Paul) Bates.
Butch is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann (Charles) Chavez; Patricia (Bernard) Mestas; Geraldine (Albert) Montoya; Rose (Chuck) Grandbush; Gloria Archuleta and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he adored.

Butch served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from October 17, 1968 to October 8, 1971 transferring to the Marine Corps Reserves until September 16, 1974 with inclusive dates of service in Vietnam: April 24, 1969-March 12, 1970 as a Wire Chief. While serving in Vietnam, Butch was promoted to Corporal, where he was a leader of Marines as a non-commissioned Officer. In addition to Vietnam, the Marine Corps took Butch to Okinawa, Japan; Hawaii; California and serving on the U.S.S Juneau in Alaska. Butch wore his Veterans ball cap, proudly, every single day.

After serving his country, Butch returned home to spend as much time as he could with family and friends, loving life in his hometown of Walsenburg. He enjoyed fishing and shooting guns with family and was always doing something to make you laugh until you cried. Butch was very kind and gave generously to his nieces and nephews whom he treated as his own. Butch will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There will be a Rosary, 7:00 PM, Friday, June 14, 2019. Funeral Mass, 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 15, 2019 both at St. Mary's Church, Interment, North St. Mary Cemetery, Walsenburg, Colorado.
